10 Accessibility

All digital content that is publicly available, including your podcast should meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). The most current version of WCAG is 2.1 and most entities strive for the AA level (there are 3 levels A, AA, AAA). Audio content, like a podcast, should always include a text equivalent like a transcript. Some podcasting streaming services provide transcripts but auto-generated transcripts should be verified. Specialized vocabulary and people’s names often need to be fixed. Speaker names should be identified in the transcript.
The podcast website should also meet the current WCAG. This includes accurate HTML structure and alternative text for images. The Basic Principles on the SUNY Oswego Accessibility website is a good introduction to digital accessibility and WebAim is a good resource for leveling up your skills.
